Pedagogical Contents (Observation results!)

Today, I want to tell you about my observation! And guess what?! I observed grade 10 😱😱😱 the highest grade in the UST junior High School! 😵 (O.K. it is not a big problem, I am just excited 😁😁) My observation start from August 14-15th, 2018.

Well...

I learned many things from my observations this time. learn how a teacher holds more than 40 students in one class, how a teacher delivers material interestingly, how a teacher develops learning material, and much more.

Honestly, this is my first experience in doing practical work directly to a class or school. So, this is truly an unforgettable experience for me.

Situation in the class room

Besides a lot of experiences I got during the observation, there are some important things that I noted here.

1.1 Teaching methods

There is something interesting about the way my mentor teaches in class. He always teaches with a loud voice, always monitors student's focus, and to ensure whether students understand the material or not, my mentor always asks students to read important concepts loudly and repeat it. He believes that by reading aloud and repeating, students will understand what they are reading.

1.2 Learning materials and innovation

In delivering the material, he always links the topics with real examples in daily life. This makes students interested in exploring the material to be taught.

1.3 Sources of learning and technology

Here, what's interesting about the class is the use of tablets for classroom learning. there are two classes that I observe, first class (St. Damian) is a class that does not use tablets in learning. while the second class (St. Digna) uses tablets as a learning tool. For St. Digna, they use electronic books stored from their tablets as learning resources. They also uses internet as their resources. Whereas for St. Damian, they use printed books as learning resources in class. For learning at home (assignments, homework, etc.) they may use resources from anywhere.

1.4 Authentic assessment

Authentic assessments are generally the same as general assessments. My mentor evaluates each end of the topic and the end of the chapter. Assessment is carried out in the form of short formative test.
