TRAVEL RESULT
For 1 month, I was assigned in UST Junior High School for
observation and teaching practice, along with the information obtained and the practicum
report that has been implemented.

School
: General Information and Academic Administration
a.
School
Profile
UST Junior High School (UST-JHS) was officially founded in 1928 by Rev.
Fr. Silvestre Sancho, O.P. Dean of the College of Education as a laboratory for
students majoring in education.
UST Junior High School, follows the University's mission and vision that
is part of it, namely in the next five years to realize UST as a Christian,
Catholic, evangelistic, Filipino and education community, with a tradition of
excellence involving its academic and non-academic staff, dedicated to overall
student formation at the secondary level in competence, commitment and
compassion.
UST Junior High School, proud of its tradition and aware of its role to
share in the mission of the University of Santo Tomas, under the inspiration
and protection of the St. Thomas Aquinas, affirmed and acknowledged his
commitment to education at the secondary level, and to the formation of
students in the Faith for the purpose of preparing them for higher education,
which was formed as true Thomasians and became responsible citizens dedicated
to serving God, the country and the whole world.
b.
Academic
Supporting System
This school is under the auspices of the University of Santo Tomas. UST
JHS is a fairly bona fide private school in Manila. The facilities and
infrastructure are quite complete. Classrooms are facilitated with air
conditioning, LCD Projectors, Sound Systems, Chalkboards, wall magazine boards,
permission cards to leave the class, and so on.
The other facilities in UST JHS, there are library, science laboratory
rooms, computer laboratories, auditorium, audio rooms, toilets, places of
worship, and many more.
The school starts at 7:00 a.m. until 16:00 Philippine Time. Sometimes
classes get additional hours, starting at 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Before
starting learning, they always begin with praying together every 07.00.
c. Teaching System
UST JHS has only one level of education, namely the junior secondary
level, which starts from 7th grade to 10th grade. The classes that I make as
practicum objects are 10th grade students, precisely in St. Damian.
Time per lesson hour for each day is adjusted for each segment. 1 hour of
study lasts 25 minutes. For Physics subjects, one meeting lasts for 3 hours
(3x25 minutes).
d.
Materials
and Learning Resources
In physics classes, UST JHS uses many learning resources, such as printed
books, electronic books, journals and articles, as well as other sources to
support learning.
e.
Measurements
and Evaluation System
The evaluation system they use is that the teacher usually gives
excercize to students after explaining the topic then giving a quiz after the
end of one or two parts of the chapter.
f.
Curriculum
UST Junior High School (UST JHS) uses K to 12 Curriculum, similar
to other schools in the Philippines.
g.
Teaching
Plan
Learning Plan that used in the JHS UST is the BBLP (BRAIN-BASED Learning
Plan) format. For the format itself can be seen in the appendix

Observation
on Teacher
a.
Planning
for Teaching
My mentor, as the physics teacher I observed, prepared a teaching
plan for one chapter. Then prepare a daily plan prepared within 1-2 days before
teaching, referring to the teaching plan per chapter that has been made.
b.
Preparing
Lessons and Materials
Every
day before going to class, my mentor prepares all the materials to be used,
ranging from videos, tools for simulation, and also examines his teaching plans
before teaching so that he can teach as best as possible.
c.
Teaching
in Class
The teacher starts the class with a prayer and checks the attendance
of students, gives greetings, then reviews the previous topic. The teacher is
very disciplined with his students. In teaching, he always pays attention to
students’s focus. If someone is out of focus, he always tries to restore the
focus of the student by asking various concepts related to today’s lesson.
Then, to make students understand the concept being taught, the teacher always
asks students to read important concepts hard together. He is convinced that
with this (repetition) students will be easier to understand the concept.
d.
Measurement
and Evaluation
The teacher always gives exercises such as training activities, quiz
bee, etc. after one topic is finished to be discussed. At the end of the topic,
the teacher always provides training to test students' understanding. In
addition there are also assessments of the results of group work, assignments,
and projects.

Procedures
of Teaching, Time Management and Organizing Activities
The first step, I must prepare lesson plans and materials that I will use
in teaching exercises, my mentor also helps me in the process of making lesson
plans. In the consultation process, my mentor always gives input when there are
shortcomings or irregularities in the learning plan that I made.
Then my teaching procedure in class is:

Problem
Solving
If I find any difficulties when making lesson plans, I consult it with my
mentor. When teaching, if students are noisy, I make my voice louder. If
students are too passive, I direct them to do discussion activities, then
occasionally I ask all students to read important concepts together with loud
voice.
