Selamat siang!
Good Afternoon!
Mabuhay!
Selamat Datang di Manila!
Let me Introduce myself, I am Hesta Anggia Sari, you can call me Hesta. I am from University of Lampung (UNILA), majoring Physics Education. I am 18 years old right now (well it is not too important, haha 😅). I'd like to say sorry, because I'm just begin to write the blog, because I am just get the internet connection. So sad 😓
Well it's been my third day of staying in Manila. All you need to know is, this is my first flight, and of course also my first time to go overseas. It's sometimes I still feels like in my hometown in Bandar Lampung, because the atmosphere is not so much different. If I see a Pinoy, a Philippines People, I will not know if they are a Pinoy until they are speaks in Tagalog, because their face's accent is just like Indonesian People.
Well, I arrived here, in Manila, August 8th 2018, at about 18 a.m. in the Ninoy Aquino's Airport. After we landed in the airport, we're doing such of checking passport processes, and then claiming our baggage. Mr. Vincent, the one who picked us in the airport has been waiting for us since afternoon. So, after we are finishing our private needs in the airport, soon we're meet Mr. Vincent to find any more thing, such as Money Changer, local sim card, and also Halal Food. Well, a little story about food, here's very difficult to find Halal food, so let's see how's our life lived here after this! hahaha 😅😅
This is our picture with Mr. Vincent when we are arrived in the airport.
Well, after from the airport, we're going to our dorm, which is located not far from our Schools for practicum. The dorm is quiet comfortable, and each rooms of the dorm will be used for three people. So, I shared my rooms with two of the other participant, they are Patcha Jankum and Anchaleeporn Pajalearn, two of them are from Thailand, so this is gonna be my big chance to improve my English Skills, because every day I must using English to talk to them.
The next day, we have our orientation in the University of Santo Tomas. The orientation is discussing about the curriculum, the campus life, and also we have a campus tour. and here's the result of our orientation yesterday.
On August 10th 2018, we have our orientation in our practicum schools. Because of our practicum school are different, so we're divided into two groups. The first group consist of them, who are going to have practicum in the Elementary School, and the other group is consist of them, who are going to have practicum in the Junior High School, including me.
We have a welcoming ceremony in the morning, and we were warmly welcomed to be a "Temporary Thomasian" for a month. In our welcoming ceremony, there's a performance from one of clubs in the UST Junior High School, that's Glee Club. And then we take a picture with our Mentor for teaching in the school. Here is my picture with my mentor
Well, after welcoming ceremony's over, we have our little breakfast, and then we have a UST JHS's tour. So, we are walking around the building of the Junior High School itself. He're are few the result of our tour.
It's 11.00 p.m., we have a special discussion with our mentors. Me, and my mentor start our discussion the library of the UST Junior High School. We're discussing about the topics that will be taught by me, talking about the curriculum, the BRAIN-BASED method, and also about the teachers-students interactions in the classroom. By the way, I'm going to teach grade 10, with the topic is about Magnetism. I'm getting confused about how to facing them, the Thomasian's students, because, this is going to be my first time to teaching in the class room!
But It's okay! Let's follow my journey!
But It's okay! Let's follow my journey!
Today, I will tell you about the profile of my practicum School, UST Junior High School. and also my trip story. Yuhuuu... 😊😊😊
Well, the UST Junior High School was founded in 1928. It is located in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. More precisely, it is located at Benavides Building University of Santo Tomas.
It is one of the high school departments of the University of Santo Tomas (UST).
UST JHS has only one level of education, Junior High School level, which starts from 7th grade to 10th grade. The classes that I make as practicum objects are 10th grade students, precisely in St. Damian. 😊😊😊
Time per lesson hour for each day is adjusted for each segment. 1 hour of study lasts for 25 minutes. For Physics subjects, one meeting lasts for 3 hours (3x25 minutes).

The School's follow curriculum from Philippines Education's Department, it is K to 12 curriculum, but, since the UST Junior High School is a private school, they are a little modifying the concepts from the government, like the distribution of the subject matter.
See, this is the logo of the UST Junior High School.

I just take some picture about it, because my memory card's runs out. Hahaha😂😂😂
It's okay, at least I have some of them to show you, right? 😋
Okay, let's continue the story 😉😉
The school's start at 07.00 a.m., and ends at 4 p.m., but some classes has extension time, which is start from 04.00 p.m. until 5.30 p.m. On their study, students are using books and also tablet/internet as their learning source. I think it's great, because they implement technology on learning in the classroom.
In physics classes, UST JHS uses many learning resources, such as printed books, electronic books, journals and articles, as well as other sources to support learning. The evaluation system they use is , the teacher usually gives excercizes to students after explaining the topic then giving a quiz after the end of one or two parts of the chapter.

Umm... By the way, do you know anything about BRAIN-BASED Learning?
It's one of teaching strategy that used in the UST Junior High School. The BRAIN-BASED learning itself is optimizing the works of human brain along of the lesson. That's why, the learning process in the classroom can be take place effectively and interesting.
The format of Lesson Plan here, is different with the lesson plan that used in Indonesia. So, I think I will work so hard to create the lesson plan itself. 😅😅 You can see/download the format or BRAIN-BASED Lesson Plan here!
And you know...
Yesterday, I went traveling around Manila. The Place that I visited are Rizal Park, Intramuros, National Museum, Metropolitan Museum, and also visiting Robinson Mall for shopping, hahaha. You know, Manila is still in a rainy season, so along of our journey on exploring that place, we are walking under the umbrella. It's so .... ( I don't know how to expressed it 😁)
